You Don't Have to Walk Alone

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Judson University. My experience includes providing individual therapy, group therapy and education classes in a PHP hospital setting and now in private practice in St. Charles.

Life throws us some very tough challenges, but you don’t have to work through them alone. Having an understanding place to vent and work out a plan to cope makes a world of difference in how quickly we adjust to or resolve our  discomfort.

I use a client-centered collaborative approach while holding a welcoming safe space for my clients to feel seen, understood and valued for who they are at this moment in time. I use a calm, caring, active style of listening and asking questions while offering feedback and suggestions where needed.  I want you to feel the strength to make your own decisions based in reality over self defeating thoughts. My approach is straightforward and personalized to allow each client to realize their true potential and reach their goals.

Mental Health Services & Treatment Philosophy

The issues I work with the most are:

  • Anxiety

  • Shame and Guilt

  • Adjustment to life changes

  • Depression

  • Divorce processing and Recovery

  • Communication problems, expressing

           needs or feelings.

  • Phase of life adjustments

  • Self esteem

  • Anger management

  • Adults with childhood trauma

  • Chronic pain

  • Insomnia

  • Caregiver Burnout

  • End of Life

Countless present problems have roots in our past. Many people benefit from processing those past events and the thoughts and feelings that linger from having experienced them. Other people are dealing with current situations and they want help navigating their choices and outcome fears. I work to unveil ways you might be self-sabotaging or using unhelpful ways to cope with negative issues in your life and develop better strategies for you. Together we will set goals to improve your self-esteem and identify automatic negative thoughts you’ve been living with while instilling new positive beliefs based on your own character strengths.

I guide clients to view their negative beliefs of their self from a more neutral perspective, and realize where the belief perhaps originated and why it remains. I believe therapy works to help clients improve their self-awareness, reduce shame and guilt while leaving space for forgiveness of self and others.

I use various strategies to help people make positive changes and improve feelings and emotional balance. My most used therapeutic strategies are evidence-based such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy along with others.
